Report : on the North American boundary between U.S. and British possessions, 1822.

The collection contains a report on Van Ness's efforts to settle the northeastern boundary between the United States and British possessions in North America. Van Ness, one of the commissioners appointed under the Treaty of Ghent, 1814, met with British commissioner Thomas Barclay, but the two were unable to reach a decision. Van Ness gives a history of the negotiations, and justifies his position with abstracts from Barclay's arguments, the terms of treaties, the Nova Scotia charter, an act of parliament concerning Quebec, correspondence, presidential testimony, and a surveyor's report.
